Claude Monet was born in Paris on November 14, 1840. When he was little his family moved to Le Havre, a town near the sea. His father owned a grocery store that sold supplies to sailors. In his youth he painted caricature portraits and exhibited them in an art supplies store.
Monet didn't like school but did like to draw funny pictures. Claude Monet drew funny caricatures of people and sold them for money when he was a teenager.
