Menstrual Art

According to tradition, in the past a woman's place was in the home. Her main duties were to be a wife, a mother, and then run a household. If a woman escaped these duties to become an artist it was an exception to the rule. Today there are many great women artists. It was only in the 20th century that it became possible for women to receive the highest levels of artistic training, and be accepted as artists both legally and culturally. In today’s evolving society, Artists such as Judy Chicago, Vanessa Tiegs, and Kat Grandy are having a great impact on the way people view certain issues and subjects.
Throughout the years, the woman's menstrual cycle has been looked upon as something of great negativity. Whenever the woman’s menstrual cycle is mentioned, the issue is often looked upon in society with disapproval. Menstrual art attempts to create artworks that people can look upon as a thing of beauty, rather than as something they would rather avoid. Where male dominated societies...
