In an issue of the Boston Phoenix, Alicia Potter wrote an interesting article titled, “Mirror Image.” In her article she explains that the pressure for men to have the perfect image is the same as it is for a women. What planet is she on? I do not believe that the pressure for men has come close to what women tolerate. Potter writes about men-focused media, the effects of this, and what their options are in the world of cosmetic surgery.
In Potter’s initial view, she writes about men being faced with the same media pressure as women. Men are competing with celebrities, magazine ads, and commercials, trying to measure up to this flawless image.
I do not believe that men will ever experience the pressure that women have endured. Women have encountered everything from the Barbie doll to the Victoria Secret’s catalog, modeling the example of the perfect image. And now, due to years of image-focus...
