Litttle Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood is a story about a little girl who is hunted by a big bad wolf.

In “The False Grandmother” by Italo Calvino this “Little Red Riding Hood” uses an

ogress instead of the wolf as the villain. When the ogress kills the grandmother she puts

her teeth on to stew in a small stew pan and the grandmother’s ears in a frying pan.

When the girl gets to her grandmother’s house the ogress tries to get the girl to eat “the

beans” broiling in the broiler and “the fritters” in the frying pan. The author used the
