Lindy Hop

Analysis of Lindy Hop’s Impact on U.S. Culture

The Lindy Hop was originally an African American dance that was only known to, and performed by black men and women. When White America first got a glimpse of the Lindy Hop, it was out of reach until the Savoy Ballroom was instituted along with its policy of allowing both blacks and whites enter. The white atmosphere was not only introduced to an entirely new genre of music and dancing, but it was a huge step towards the U.S. culture’s acceptance of interracial socializing. From this derived the first all white Jazz bands.
