The Truth about John Nash’s “Beautiful Mind”

Not very many people know or care about “famous” mathematicians, but due to his victory over schizophrenia and the movie that was made about it many Americans now know about John Nash. However, “A Beautiful Mind” was not a biography, so there are a lot of dramatizations and many things about Nash’s life were left out all together. Sometimes a writers “artistic license” can really muddy the waters of truth. Hopefully, I can clear them up.
John Forbes Nash Jr. was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on June 13, 1928. His father, John Nash Sr., was an electrical engineer was a veteran of WWI, and worked for the Appalachian Power Company during Nash’s childhood. Nash’s mother Margaret Virginia Martin, called Virginia, was a school teacher before her marriage, but was severely affected by partial hearing loss due to scarlet fever.
