Jaguar

The jaguar is the largest cat of the Americas, and the only living representative of the genus Panthera found in the New World. The scientific name for the jaguar is Panthera Onca. Panthera is Greek meaning "for all" and "hunter,” a reference to this animal's position at the top of the food chain; Onca is Greek meaning "hook" or "barb," a reference to the jaguar's formidable set of claws. The jaguar is often confused with the Leopard, both cats. Depending on the Jaguar sub-species they have a similar brownish/yellow base fur color, which is distinctively marked with dark rosette markings.
