Indonesia: A snapshot

Indonesia established its independence from the Netherlands and Japan on August 17, 1945, is currently the forth most populous country and is comprised of nearly 17,000 islands covering more than 3 million square miles and extending 2,000 kilometers from North to South and more than 5,000 kilometers from East to West. In addition to difficulties arising over Indonesia’s vast expanse, concern also exists regarding its several active volcanoes. While these volcanoes provide fertile soil for farming, they also threaten manufacturing facilities and to timber, rubber, tea or coffee investments.
