Incorporation vs. Excorporation

In this short paper I will discuss the cycles of incorporation and excorporation as seen in today’s society. In her article, Taking Cool Away From Kids, Maureen Dowd explores the new views many mothers have adopted in regards to Eminem and the struggles over power their beliefs cause in popular culture. I will examine critic John Fiske’s beliefs of the cycles of incorporation and excorporation that were outlined Dr. Brummett in lecture. I will also provide a very interesting example of a cycle of power struggles in history and today’s society. I plan to prove in summation that society creates pop culture icons from the opposition and too examine my findings with a critical lens.
