Research Question: Which of Euglena’s two methods of gathering energy – heterotrophic or autotrophic – is more productive?

Hypothesis: Since life in pond water is not reliable, it is hard to believe that the Euglena rely on them as a primary source of food. There might be periods in the weather that kill off all other life but the euglena and they are stranded without food. It makes sense to believe that Euglena rely on sunlight (photosynthesis) primarily. If the Euglena relied on sunlight primarily, then when sun was dim or rare, then the food in the pond would be a secondary source of energy.
