How far did Patrick Pearse and the other leaders of the Easter Rising influence the Ulster question and partition?

Why did many people fear that traditional gender roles would be undermined by the war of 1914-18, and were their fears well grounded?

The First World War saw the vast mobilisation of men to the trenches of the front line leaving new opportunities for the women on the home front. As women became visible in the workplace their replacement of men brought fears to how this new female independence would affect gender roles and the position of men in the post-war period. This essay will attempt to distinguish the changing role of men and women during the war and how this affected gender roles in post-war Britain. It will also attempt to recognise how the country reacted to fears of female intrusion without the social constraint of men.
