The History of Chevrolet
William Durant was originally head of General Motors but had been forced out by the company bankers. In 1909 William Durant asked Louis Chevrolet a well-known racecar driver to help design a car for the public. The Chevrolet Motor Car Company enters the automotive world on November 3, 1911, originally not part of General Motors Company. Durant was determined to gain control of GM once again, so when his Chevrolets began popular he took the profits and bought stock in GM. By 1916 Durant controlled 54.5 percent of GM stock, he walked in the front door and declared himself president. In 1918 Chevrolets first truck went on sale along with the Fords model T competitor, the Chevy 490. 1929 Chevrolet introduces its first 6-cylinder engine. ?Six cylinders at the price of four? was their new slogan.
