Great Man Theory, the first leadership theory, was first studied as early as 1869, and is based on traits effective leaders possess, based on hereditary. Great Man Theory states that in order for someone to be a great leader, they must have someone else in their family, a father or grandfather or brother, which whom they learned leadership from. Great leadership must be inherited, not learned.
