Generation X and Y

Generation X and Y have as many similarities as they do dissimilarities. In reading the article “My Generation” by Jason Cooley in 1992, he apathetically describes his generation. Through my look at the past and present, media and attitudes show the most effective comparisons.
Cooley describes the media of his generation as shallow and non cultured. As past generations have had powerful leaders like John F. Kennedy and cultural icons like the Beatles, Cooley’s generation is stuck with Cable and MTV. As more celebrities become role models for teens they have also become the leading force in determining teen values and their attitudes. Then you have “role models” like Madonna who perform half naked . . . what an example. Cooley’s generation had a media takeover. His generation is not only owned by images...
