The competition for architectural design attracted many local architects. Designs were to be come under three types according to estimated cost. 1. 5000 2. 4500 3. 4250
The guidelines of entry to the competition dictated the number of bedrooms, setbacks, ceiling heights and specific materials as typically exposed brick or concrete block and timber joinery. Ten individual house schemes were commended and awarded contracts to build.

After the games ended and the village homes were re-finished and painted before being put on offer for sale by tender to private buyers. 28 of the 150 houses sold by tender, unfortunately not enough was known about purchasing houses by tender that is why there was lack of interest. The R and I Bank then took over the selling process of the remaining 122 and by May 1963 they were all sold.

Since the selling of the 150 houses 50 have been demolished and 100 are still there.
