free will and determinism

Imagine if every event that took place in our lives had a pre-existing cause which brought the event about? This sounds like a reasonable assumption, considering the scientific age that we are living in. Can you imagine someone claiming that when it snows, or when a dog runs away, there might be no cause for it? Surely, human behavior is caused however that does not imply that that everything is predetermined. Events, “don‘t just happen; they happen for reasons,” (p.175) as Dennett, the author of Freedom Evolves states, whether it be to teach us lessons about our past or to make us realize something about our future. The types of human conduct for which people are held morally accountable for are usually said to be caused by the people who engage in that behavior. Typically, people author their own actions by making choices; therefore, this sort of behavior might be considered to be caused by our personal choice-makings.
