florence renaissance

Florence prospered greatly during the Renaissance because of its relationships with surrounding areas. In the late Middle Ages, the city formed crossroads for wool traders. Giovanni and Cosimo de Medici introduced banking to make Florence a crossroads for financing. These new discoveries greatly encouraged rebirth, and with these improvements, Florence was more open to new ideas. The town learned about new philosophies, and would also use artwork as a form of learning and expression.
