FDR: new deal

During the late 1920’s to the early 1930’s Republicans had control over our nation. They ran the country with a laissez- faire type government. Because of this “hands off” government, the country walked straight into an economic depression known as the Great Depression. The public blamed the past four Republican presidents, especially Herbert Hoover. Finally, in 1932 the first Democratic president in four terms was elected. His name was Franklin D. Roosevelt. When he came into office he was overloaded by the problems of the country. Soon, he came up with a solution known as the New Deal. This passed many bills and laws to help the people. Through this New Deal program, the government became involved with the people and their problems.
