Essay on Blessings Lessons to Learn in Life Every person needs someone in his or her life to confide in. The person who they confide in is the confidante, who listens to problems, tells them their opinion, and helps the person get through the issue. Usually, it is a best friend or a mom, but in Blessings, by Anna Quindlen, it is a different story. Charles, or “Skip”, Cuddy is a young man who needs help, and Lydia Blessing serves as Skips confidante by giving him a place to live and helping him with his problems. Mrs. Blessing finds Skip Cuddy, a poor kid with no family, in Wal-Mart when he helps her fix her car. She realizes that he is a nice kid, and before he knows it, he ends up at her plantation in Mount Mason, “the most beautiful place in town”, Blessings (13). Skip has always had an extremely bad problem with getting in trouble, losing jobs, and going to jail for one stupid decision he made. But when he moves to Blessings, his whole life is changed.
