Equality

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of the word equality is the quote “all men are created equal”. For me this has a lot of meaning, although it is a fairly new concept in our society. Equality means to have the same privileges or rights.
In the 1950’s equality was questioned and fought for throughout the 60’s as the Civil Rights Movement. A main event that started some action against inequality or discrimination was when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white woman on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. It took a long time for people to comprehend that black people have the same right to sit on the bus, drink out of the same water fountain and attend the same schools as white people. Even though 50 years seems like a long time, people still do not understand this concept of equality. In the 1960’s equal rights took another jump with Martin Luther King Jr. He is best known for his “ I Have a Dream” speech that he made in Washington D.C...
