Employment At-will Employment At-will For many years, businesses have used an employment-at-will policy when hiring their employees. What is an employment-at-will policy? To put it in simple terms, an employment-at-will policy is where neither the employer nor the employee has to give a reason behind terminating their employment (6). A human resource manager needs to look at several problems related to an employment-at-will policy when deciding if it is right for their organization. These problems include current legal precedent, backlash from potential employees, changes to the current personnel environment, and resentment from current employees. Also, there are always alternatives to employment-at-will that can be considered.
