edward muybridge

Established in San Fransico as photographer, he was the first, of 1872 to 1888, to break up the movement of a horse running (see below) by means of cameras laid out into battery : In 1872, the American governor Leland Stanford wants to prove that a horse very does not touch any more the ground at one moment court of its running. For that, he asks Edward Muybridge to photograph this moment. Muybridge couples several apparatuses which start successively with very short intervals. Then, he assembles its photographs on a stroboscope , and reproduced the running : the cinema was born. With close the success of these experiments, he published its work and made in 1881 a travel in Europe where he met Marey. To animate its photographs, he built in 1879 the Zoopraxynoscope of which he made demonstrations at the Exposure of Chicago of 1882.Thomas Alva Edison witnesse...
