EDNA ST. VINCENT MILLAY: TIME HAS NO EFFECT ON HEALING

A poet has a sincere way of describing grief. Creative endeavors following a loss can be very therapeutic and helps the grieving person to find a means of expressing grief or remembering someone lost. It is through this expression of emotion and that grief can be understood and others can find not only comfort, but relate to the poet’s words. The expression of a catastrophe is a way for the poet to heal through loss and help them discover what is causing certain emotions. Throughout life everyone experiences a loss, whether it is the death of a loved one or the ending of a relationship. In Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “Sonnet II” we see the ability of a poet to find the beauty of nature in tragedy. The main purpose of the poem is to convey that time does not have a positive effect of getting over a casualty while adding a modern form to the traditional Italian sonnet.
