ecstacy

A large percentage of the US population (especially in the 17-25 year old range) has tried the drug methylenedioxymethamphetamine (herein referred to as MDMA) or "Ecstasy" as it is commonly called. Although the use if this drug is on the rise, there is very little information made readily available to the public about the safety risks associated with the use of this drug. This leaves users relying on folklore and word of mouth for information that could possibly save their lives. The purpose of this paper is to present current and scientifically reliable information on the drug.
The drug has had a long, but traceable history. MDMA was patented in 1913 by the German company Merck. The developer of the drug was a chemist named Alexander Shuglan. After getting a Ph.D. from the University of California he developed an insecticide and was given, as a reward, free reign in a research lab.
