Every single accident caused by a drunk driver could have been completely prevented. Each year, twenty percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States are caused by drunk drivers. Drunk driving is the nation’s most frequently committed violent crime.
The majority of drivers who have had something to drink have a low blood alcohol content or concentration and few are involved in fatal crashes. On the other hand, those having an alcohol content higher than .15 are usually involved in fatal crashes. The average BAC (blood alcohol content) found in fatally injured drunk drivers was .17.
