Doctrine of Promissory Estoppel

The thing that I wanted to learn more about was the doctrine of promissory estoppel. This doctrine was referenced to in many of the chapters in this section. Since I saw it more than once, I thought that it would be a good topic to learn more about. In Missouri an oral promise whose enforcement in an action for breach of contract is barred by the Statute of Frauds may be enforced in a separate cause of action under the doctrine of promissory estoppel. Under the doctrine of promissory estoppel, a party who has relied to his disadvantage upon another's promise may enforce that promise to the degree of his reliance.
I found that an action under the doctrine of promissory estoppel will likely have to be tried in justice without a jury. It will fail unless the plaintiff can demonstrate the fact that "injustice" will result if the oral promise is not enforced.
