Each year about one million children will experience the divorce of their parents, according to recent observations by Patrick Fagan and Robert Rector, authors of the article, ‘The Effects of Divorce on America’. These observations also conclude that the growing divorce rates in America over the past half century have risen dramatically. In 1950, twenty-three out of every hundred marriages have ended in divorce, and by 2000, that number increased to fifty-one out of every hundred marriages, making roughly half of the American population divorced. The results of divorce tear thousands of families apart and devastate the lives of children. As divorce rates continue to rise steadily in the United States, there are questions to the outcome it will have on the future leaders of our country, and how our society will be affected as a whole .
