Discussion of the Stamp Act of 1765
In the spring of 1765, Parliament decided to tax the American people. This was not the first time they had done so, only this was the first time they had taxed the American people with an internal tax. The British called this the Stamp Act, meaning that every legal document, newspaper, etc. would have to bear a government-issued stamp that the colonists would have to buy. The American people were outraged.
