B. There are two sides to genetic engineering in medicine. On the plus side, genetic engineering helps to cure diseases like cancer by replacing defective genes with healthy, appropriate ones. Secondly, we can clone organs for people who need them. Third, we can use genetic engineering to produce drugs that prevent tumors by depriving them of the blood vessels they need to grow. Fourth, we can prevent rheumatoid arthritis with bone marrow transplants. Finally, we can increase milk production by giving the cows genetically engineered drugs. On the negative side, gene therapy that was in its early research stages, has caused death. Secondly, patients that are in relatively good health could suffer permanent damage. Thirdly, because genetic engineering is still new, occasional unexpected side effects, including death, occur.
