With the unemployment rate at 5.9%, no signs of a recovery anytime soon, gas prices soaring, massive budget over runs and a Congress who doesn't want to even begin to cut back on the spending I cannot see how Bush will make it in 2004. A victory in Iraq may help Bush gain a return engagement in the White House, but it has been a long slow process of rebuilding. It is difficult to be a war time president; people are scared, and want to blame someone. Since the republicans are the ones in control, they will pay the price weather it is their fault or not. 9/11 was the best thing that could have happened to Bush because it impacted the whole country and took focus off domestic issues for what seems to be a while. However, the economy will eventually be the issue. After all it dose not matter what gains he makes in another country when his own country is suffering.
