In the story, Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, the authors main point is to show Willy’s obsession with being well liked and how it affects his relationship between the people around him by describing his relationship between his boys; his friend, Charley, and brother, Ben.
At the beginning of the story, when Willy is in the past, his relationships with his boys are very good. He advises them that they should be “well liked”, and they should make an appearance and create interest in order to get ahead in the business world like his idol Dave Singleman (Miller p.30-33-81). In other words, Willy wants to emphasize to his boys that being well liked is the key to success.
