Beach Erosion is a large problem in Hawaii. Beaches are places where we play, live, and make our money here in Hawaii. The loss of beaches in Hawaii is widespread from Maui to Oahu, from Waikiki to Kailua Beach. Yes, there are natural reasons for beach loss but there are reasons that are entirely our fault. We took sand from beaches, built sea walls, and developed cities. Beaches are the protectors of our homes and businesses. When storms come and create big waves the beach acts like a buffer to slow the water or stop it before it hits our homes. It is very important to save our beaches because they are such an important part of Hawaii. There are some organizations out there that really are trying to save our beaches.
