Critical Thinking Article Summary and Critique on Iraq

The author of this article states, in my opinion, that the U.S. military in Iraq has a false perception of how its us of “force protection” (the metaphoric term used by the military) is meant to keep our soldiers “alive and well. Since the President announced the war’s conclusion in May, soldiers continue to lose their lives as they struggle to maintain the peace and continue the hunt for Saddam Hussein and his henchmen. I believe the author makes a good point when she says that our military needs to be among the Iraqi people more in order to acquire the necessary intelligence information. It is true that such information cannot be learned in a humvee. However, the situation in Iraq does present somewhat of a “Catch-22” and the author should not assume that the elimination of “force protection” will make the Iraqis more receptive to inquiries from our military.
