Raskolnikov , the protagonist of the novel, can be seen suffering throughout the novel. Roskolnikov’s suffering is the center of the novel and through his suffering many of the other main character’s suffering is revealed. Sonia is another character that suffers endlessly throughout the novel. The sufferings of Roskolnikov and Sonia become closely linked as they form a bond. Raskolnikov and Sonia approach suffering in very distinct ways. Raskolnikov shows an attraction to suffering while Sonia uses her faith to overcome it. In the end Raskolnikov, due to his inability to suffers the most.
