Crime and Punishment

Crime and Punishment is a novel based on the psychological deterioration of those who commit terrible crimes and undergo a tremendous level of guilt. The main character in this novel commits a murder and must face the unbearable consequences. The event causes a conflict in the novel, affects the character, and is significant to the novel.
The conflict in the novel involves the psychological problems Rodion Raskolnikov faces after committing a terrible murder. He plans and carries out the murder of an old woman who is a pawnbroker, but her sister unexpectedly shows up during the murder so he is forced to kill her, too.
