Comparison of propaganda usage between Hitler and Napoleon Propaganda is defined by Merriam-Webster as, “ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause.” One theme of George Orwell’s Animal Farm is the power of propaganda and how it can be used to achieve social control. Orwell supports this theme with his use of plot, symbolism, and use of the protagonist. I will compare the use of propaganda in Animal Farm to Adolph Hitler’s use of propaganda in his quest to become one of the 20th century’s most powerful dictators. In the story Animal Farm, there are many different similarities between the characters in the story and people in real life. By comparing Napoleon’s use of propaganda to the way Hitler used propaganda, I will illustrate the manner in which both subjects achieved the result they desired.
