Compare and Contrast the two poems 'The Seduction' and 'Cousin KAte'

The Seduction’ and ‘Cousin Kate’

‘The Seduction’ and ‘Cousin Kate’ are both narrative poems, telling the story of a teenager/young woman respectivley, who get seduced, taken advantage of, then cast aside by an older and more experienced man. Both poems are told from the girls point of view, and tell the reader of the consequences of their actions.

‘The Seduction’ is about a teenage girl who gets pregnant after a one night stand.
In the first verse, straight away we are given the temporal and geographical setting:

‘…early Sunday morning…Birkenhead docks…’

The fact that it is a Sunday seems unethical, as Sunday is seen as a holy day, and this forms antithetical ideas with the events about to occur. We are also told that:

‘He led her…’
