Communism is a political and economic system that became one of the most powerful forces in the world (Britannica 889). To some, communism may have been the greatest threat to world peace. Others have thought of it as the world’s greatest hope. It is a system in which property is owned by the whole community and all the people (citizens) share in the enjoyment of the common wealth. The idea of a classless community, in which all the productions and distributions are owned by the society.
During the 19th century, the theory of communism was created by two German philosophers; Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Its two main ideas were that peasants and workers would be free to manage their own factories and land production, and that “class” differences would be eliminated. Each person in the community would receive goods according to their needs, and government would “wither away” (Fannon 36).
