As soon as they have something in common (smoking together) Rita suddenly brings it back down to earth that they are totally different. She talks of a poem: “…I read it in this poem about fightin’ death” “Ah – Dylan Thomas…” “No Roger McGough..” This will bring a few laughs from the audience, only those who know their liverpudlian poets. As most people know Dylan Thomas is a legend in the English world, writing many wonderful poems. Yet Frank mistakes him for Roger McGough, a “peoples person” from Liverpool who is obviously not in the same league as Thomas. Frank makes this mistake as he is excited that Rita knows and is reading a well known poet that she can learn from and he can teach about, but he is sadly mistaken and in a big way too.
