Columbus

Columbus’s exploration and the English settler’s search for a new home lead them to the same New World but their impressions of the land and its people, although similar, show differences that allude to their intentions for the fate of the New World.
There is very little difference in the physical descriptions that Columbus and the English settlers give. The people that Columbus first encounters are dark with short, coarse hair. He describes them as having “good faces” and “handsome bodies”. The people the settlers meet are described more as yellowish but they too have dark hair. More importantly however, Columbus and the English settlers give similar accounts of how the people in the New World acted yet they have different reactions to what this means about the people of the New World.
