Strong and Bound

In my readings of Woman Warrior, written by Maxine Hong Kingston I have noticed a prominent idea of strength, honor and unity among the women in these stories. The women overcame many things through their ties to each other and their struggle with Chinese culture and Americanization. They also overcame the typical stereotype of Chinese women. In Chinese culture women were expected to act and look a certain way, they were also expected to do certain duties. The women in these stories were not typical Chinese women. They had strength and honor beyond that of a typical Chinese woman. Their ties and bonds to each other were seen throughout. The women proved that they were not on the earth to please man but to please and protect themselves first and foremost. In a sense throughout each story the women were bound, not in a literal sense but to each other, their family and their culture.
Throughout the stories there were many discussions of honor ...
