Charlie Gordon (Flowers for Algernon) vs. Taylor Greer (The Bean Trees)

Charlie Gordon (Flowers for Algernon) feels “locked out” of his environment because like Taylor Greer (The Bean Trees), he has just jumped from being a child to a full member of society.
Charlie is new to his environment. He has had no examples of human behavior set out for him to study. He is confused about his personality, his relationships, and where his life is headed. This quote is from Charlie at the beginning of his awareness to his own faults:
