Change

Choose the text My Place, and another text from the Stimulus Booklet and another from your own material. Compare and contrast their representation of change.

Change is inevitable in a progressive world. Change is constant.

The texts under discussion show that inevitable change results in the rediscovery of self. The rediscovery of self may be either positive or negative and is a direct result of the way an individual deals with the changes in their lives.
The form of each text defines the way in which each composer is able to develop his or her ideas. Sally Morgan’s book My Place is a non-fiction account of a young woman’s discovery of self. Being non-fiction, Morgan has worked only with the truth and as a result has created a personal authenticity within the story.
The novel Looking for Alibrandi, by Melina Marchetta, has a similar theme to My Place. Being a fictitious story, Marchetta has been able to use the characters in the story to express her own themes and tie up ...
