Chance

In the poem “The Possibility” Fenton starts off on a negative note. “The lizard…engrossed…sudden silence from the wood” perhaps by saying this he states a sudden realization. A realization of a “possibility of good” that he has “lost.” Fenton notes “I know this flower is beautiful And yesterday it seemed to be.” He knew yesterday the flower was beautiful to him, but the “possibility” was lost. Now the flower, open “like a crimson hand” is not “beautiful” anymore.
