Usually we think a severe crime committed by one person against another

deserves capital punishment. However, In Rod Mckuen’s “Thoughts On Capital

Punishment," he clearly explains that punishment of the death penalty should be extended

to people who run over animals with cars. The speaker explains that a jury of animals

should try wreckless drivers. When found guilty, the animals would punish the driver

because it kills the innocent animal that is loved by another animal. He feels that the loss

suffered by the animals is no different that humans would suffer because We are all gods’

creatures. Mckuen uses poetic devices such as alliteration personification visual imagery,

irony symbolism, tone is used to carry out the theme Justic for all creatures not just

humans.

In the first stanza there is a tone of anger with cars used as a weapon that run over

animals. Cars are used to commit this awful crime and the drivers should be punished for...
