Burke's French Revolution

A Partnership For True Liberty
In his famous Reflections on the Revolution in France Edmund Burke wrote, "People will not look forward to posterity, who never look backward to their ancestors" (pg 119). He believed that one could not have an interest for the future if one did not care for the past, since one is bound to the past. His famous definition of society was that it was a contract between all people and that each individual is merely a small part in a larger body. To achieve a harmonious balance in society, traditions should be kept and controlled liberty must always be in use.
Edmund Burke was born in Ireland, the son of a Catholic mother and a Protestant father. He was a journalist and author who believed in the Conservative cause. He was a Whig leader with a record of supporting liberal causes, such as being in favor of the American war. He suddenly became a leading conservative ideologue when he published his Reflections of the Revolution in France on November 1st of 1790...
