Brussels style

EXPO 1958 in Brussels represents a kind of summation of architectural developments in the 1950s. Besides the use of the most current constructions innovations such as shell structures and curtain-wall technology, Brussels was also characterized by the numerous experiments with novel building materials – corrugated walls of aluminium and plastic, stained-glass windows and as one of “the strongest impressions,”14 color. One sees in the exhibition pavilions, the bold use of plasticity and freer formal patterns, which energized the surfaces of the glass skins.
