Blue-tack investigation
This investigation is going to find out how the temperature of the Blu-Tack changes its tensile strength and hardness.
Rationale
When chewing gum is well chewed, its original properties are changed gradually with the compression by chewing. The shape and the stiffness are changed, becoming plastic, ductile, and malleable. This happens because the temperature rises as the kinetic energy is applied. I therefore think that it would be interesting to investigate how the temperature affects the mechanical properties of chewing gum. Unfortunately, the chewing gum is not an appropriate material to be experimented with so I decided to investigate Blu- tack, which has a very similar texture to chewing gum. From my memory, the posters that are stuck by the Blu-Tack on the wall in my room in Hong Kong are less likely to fall off as often as they do in the UK.
