Bells Palsy

Bell’s Palsy is not a inherited gene, a sex-linked, or location of gene, it is an idiopathic viral attack on the facial nerve occurring in approximately 4 out of 10,000. The virus that is responsible for it is probably the Herpes Simplex-1 Virus. Most people may know it as HS1. In recent studies in Japan it shows strong evidence that the HS1 is the primary cause of known idiopathic Bell’s Palsy. With nearly 85% of all Bell’s patients studies were found to have this HS1 virus present. Having the virus doesn’t not mean you have Bell’s Palsy, it just means that the virus causes the disorder. Other possible causing viruses are Herpes Zoster or Shingles Virus and Lymes Disease.
The virus usually affects one-side of the face but is not uncommon for bilateral patients to appear, ones that are affected on both sides. Bell’s Palsy affects the muscle and the nerves in the face of a patient. The disea...
