Introduction
The purpose of this driver set is to provide easy, direct access to the controls and imagery of compliant cameras on the 1394 serial bus. These cameras are capable of transmitting image data at up to 400 mbps* while also offering the ability to control myriad parameters of the camera from software.

The work on this driver set started back in 1999, when cameras that comply with the 1394 Digital Camera Specification were first becoming commercially available. Back then, there was a void of software support for these cameras, so we took it upon ourselves to write our own, then make it publicly available.

Now, cameras that fit this specification are popping up everywhere, and despite the appearance of other software packages like this one, our driver set remains wildly popular in the research community, with thousands of downloads each month.
